First Christian Church of Honolulu is a local congregation of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), and has a membership policy which is very open and inviting. Each Sunday during worship we offer an invitation for persons to join by coming forward to be introduced. Membership is an identification with the life and meaning of Jesus Christ, and we believe it is synonymous with the discipleship (following) which enables us to grow and serve as Christian people. We are open and affirming of all persons becoming members.One may become a member of First Christian Church by:
Confession of Faith and Baptism — This is an adult (old enough to make their own decision - usually 10 years of age or older) commitment through first a public affirmation of faith by saying "I do" to the question "Do you believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God, and do you take him as Lord of your life and Savior of our world." The second step is baptism by immersion, symbolizing new life in Christ.
or Transfer of Membership or Reaffirmation of Faith — Persons who have been members of any Christian denomination are welcome to come forward at the time of invitation and place their membership in our congregation. We are an open membership church and we accept all other forms of baptism as valid even if they might have been different than our practice of immersion.
or Associate Membership — Occasionally persons need to maintain membership in their home church, and we are wiling to recognize them as active, full members of our congregation. We, of course, also welcome persons as participants who are active in the church, but who have not yet chosen to become members.
If you are considering membership, in any way, at First Christian Church of Orange, we hope that you will speak to the Pastor, or one of the church staff. Membership is a significant and meaningful relationship, and we warmly welcome persons in this choice.
